THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE KIDNAPPING IN STRPCI

     On Sunday, February 26, 2017 the Association for Social Research and Communication (UDIK), in cooperation with female organization “Woman’s Voice – Priboj” will organize a street activity on the occasion of the anniversary of the kidnapping in Strpci. The activity will be carried out at fra Grga Martic Square in Sarajevo. Next day, the activists will attend memorial service in Prijepolje.

The crime named “Kidnapping in Strpci” took place on 27 February 1993 when members of the Serbian paramilitary unit under the command of Milan Lukic, with the logistical support from the Republic of Serbia, kidnapped a group of passengers from Belgrade – Bar train at Strpci station near Visegrad, on Bosnian territory. They kidnapped and later killed 19 civilians: 18 Bosniaks, one Croat and one unidentified person. Most of those killed were citizens of Serbia and Montenegro. For this crime were sentenced Nebojsa Ranisavljevic to imprisonment of 15 years and Milan Lukic to life in prison. Also, for the kidnapping of civilians from the train 671 at Strpci station who were killed in Visegrad, Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges for 10 persons and the trial is ongoing.

This is the fourth time that UDIK marks this anniversary and reminds the public to this crime. UDIK appeals courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina to speed up trials and to punish the accused for the crime.
